Kendrick Lamar made his acting debut on 50 Cent’s Power season 5. Kendrick got together with Variety to break down his role on the show with co creator Courtney Kemp. The rapper recalls that this move has been in the works for nearly four years. Kemp went to further explained that this was an opportune moment in the shows plot to bring Kendrick’s character in. During the break down Kemp explained, “the number one thing on our show is that we don’t put you in as you are in the world, you have to change your image”. With that critic, Lamar came up with the idea of being a drug abuser on the show. Kendrick told Variety, ” I want to be something out of the ordinary, but something I connect to at the same time. Drug abuser!” Kendrick reason for the character called Laces, derives from his influence growing up in Compton. K. Dot undoubtedly sold his roll as Laces, and we hope that this is not the last that we see of him.
