EA Sports had to apologize after this “Mistake”

EA Sports issued an apology Thursday evening for taking Colin Kaepernick out of “Big Bank” a song featured on the Madden NFL 19 as if his name was a curse word. The song is by rapper artist YG and features other rappers on the track but it was Rapper Big Sean verse that was altered. After the news was out Big Sean responded with a tweet where he stated, “It’s disappointing and appalling @NFL & @EA took @Kaepernick7’s name out of my verse on Big Bank for Madden 19, like it was a curse word. When he’s not a curse, he’s a gift! Nobody from my team approved any of this.”. After EA sports got wind of this they responded with an apology where they stated the censorship was, “We made an unfortunate mistake with our Madden NFL soundtrack. Members of our team misunderstood the fact that while we don’t have rights to include Colin Kaepernick in the game, this doesn’t affect soundtracks.  We messed up, and the edit should never have happened”.

For those who don’t know of the controversial NFL player Kaepernick, he was a quarterback for the  San Francisco 49ers. He first made news surround him when he sat while the national anthem of America played in the begging of the third preseason game but it was unnoticed that he also sat for the anther at the two games prior. Soon after this discovery, the media began to storm him with questions as to why the reason for his protest, where he simply replied that “I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color. To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder”.

With this statement being made, there was some backlash from NFL officials and fans due to Colin’s protest being seen as a form of disrespect to the serving men and woman in our country’s military. In addition, as the football season began to progress Kaprineck changed his protest approach from sitting to kneeling as a way to show respect to the woman and men who serve this country. The cause for this shift was due to the quarterback meeting with an ex-Green Berret and brief NFL player Nate Boyer, “we came up with taking a knee. Because there are issues that still need to be addressed and it was also a way to show more respect for the men and women who fight for this country”. Kaprineck continued kneeling for every game when the National Anthem played as the football season progressed as he counted to get hate and support from the country’s media platforms and various politicians throughout America. Now fast-forward to Colion not playing for San Francisco anymore and being a free agent currently.  Who knows what Colin future is in store for but it will be very interesting in the new football season.
