The World’s Tallest Statue has Just Been Completed in India
The Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has just unveiled the world’s largest statue. Standing at 182 meters in height, twice the height of the statue of liberty. The Statue of Unity was designed by Michael Graves Architecture & Design, and depicts an important figure in Indian politics, the late Vallabhbhai Patel also referred to as the “Unifier of India.” Created with over 18,000 tonnes of reinforced steel and 1,700 tonnes of bronze, the project has taken over five years to complete, and is estimated to have cost upwards of $430 million USD. Since its completion, the Statue of Unity has dethroned China’s Spring Temple Buddha (128 meters), taking the top spot for tallest statue by 54 meters.
