Facebook adds music features to profiles and Stories, expands Lip Sync Live to Pages

Facebook is rolling out more music features today, bringing more ways to integrate its licensing partnership with all three major labels into stories,

user profiles, and its Lip Sync Live feature.

Starting today, users will be able to add music stickers to their Facebook Stories. You can search for songs, pick out the part you want to share, and add the sticker with the artist and song name. It works exactly the same way as it does on Instagram Stories, which introduced the feature in June.

Facebook is also expanding Lip Sync Live, its TikTok competitor (RIP Musical.ly), to Pages, so creators and artists can “connect with their fans.” It’ll most likely be useful for artists in promoting their singles, as Jess Glynne recently did. Lip Sync Live is also adding onscreen lyrics, creating a more karaoke-like experience.

Finally, Facebook will be launching the ability to add songs to a new music section on user profiles. It won’t be showing what users are listening to in real time yet, as they have to manually choose the song they want to add to their profiles. Instead, it’s more of a way to show what you’re currently into, or share what your favorite song is. Visitors to your profile will be able to tap the music section to listen to a portion of the song, and have the option to add the song to their own profile or be taken to the artist’s Facebook page.
