17 YEARS ON THIS DAY JAYZ & FABOLOUS RELEASE CLASSIC ALBUMS
17 years ago, New York City suffered the biggest terrorist attack in American history. The 9/11 World Trade Center attacks devastated the city and still has after effects that linger today. While September 11, 2001 is connected with terrorism in NYC, two of the city’s most popular rappers from Brooklyn dropped albums that same day. JAY Z’s The Blueprint album cut cemented two producers as the at the time sound of tomorrow: Kanye West and Just Blaze. The Blueprint featured stand out songs like: “Izzo (H.O.V.A.),” “Song Cry,” “Girls, Girls, Girls,” “Heart of the City (Ain’t No Love),” “Takeover,” “The Ruler’s Back,” and “Renegade” (featuring Eminem.)
JAY Z wasn’t the only Brooklyn based MC to drop a project on 9/11. Fabolous released his debut album “Ghetto Fabolous” on 9/11 too. At the time, the Brooklyn based lyricist was one of the hottest young rappers in hip-hop. His flow and delivery was exciting, and he delivered a solid first LP that featured a fair share of memorable bangers. The top standouts from “Ghetto Fabolous” include: “Can’t Deny It,” “Trade It All,” and “Young’n (Holla Back).” 9/11 will always hold an infamous place in New York City history, so will the two local homegrown lyricists that dropped dope projects on the same day in the midst of the chaos. Each project lifted the spirits of many New Yorkers amongst this tragedy.
